Demon King

This was a Weekly Drawing topic...
A close up... there is a little demon with a toothpick stuck in his head, like an olive in a martini.Quick concept sketches for Demon King, done on pink Post-It Notes.

LOL!

The close-up may very well end up being the most sought after tattoo in 2008.

I can see some biker dude reaching over his back to tell someone to "Check out the demon with the toothpick in his head!"

Love it.

I can't fathom the complexity you put into your characters. The Demon King is a perfect example of how you successfully exaggerate certain features, such as the wings. The last post also had so many kick-ass animals!! I hope to one day work with you!

*Love* the "olive demon". What does a guy have to do to get those post-it notes hanging in his cube or livingroom wall? Money? Loan you Xbox360 games? Flabby hide?

My favorite post so far!
While I'm here, are you going to Further Confusion this weekend? I'm thinking of going on Saturday; that is if I can get Dave to do it for the Lulz. :D

Corrick - Cool, that's funny actually, early on while I was drawing, the Demon King himself reminded me of some Death's Head tattoo that a biker would have on his jacket or something. I sort of wanted to add more interesting, quirky elements to it rather than "Hey look at me, I'm a dark skeletal demon. Wooo!" At first I drew the King grabbing a small demon by the throat. But then I decided to give him some "class."

Richard - Working with you would be so cool, as you're very talented and we're both inspired by similar artists and styles. Thank you so much for your compliments on the complexity and exaggeration in my characters. I'm happy with the way the wings flowed, too, as well as how the end of the tail wraps over itself. I think I need to push the poses more and work on my sense of weight. I love the way you exaggerate your character poses; it's extremely beautiful and have a lot of impact and "oomph" to it!

Ed - Thanks so much again for appreciating my work and it really made me happy that you would display my art on your walls! Your request was a huge compliment. Enjoy the Post-its and print!

Piya - Hey, thanks! Your updates are going strong, too! It's tough, I took way too many side projects on my plate and I'm constantly juggling them. I have to keep myself perceiving these projects as fun and productive, instead of a chore and burden of obligation and expectations. Sometimes I wish I just had more time to kick back and not have anything to do but relax, read and play games, but then I'd feel guilty about not progressing!

Chinamouse - Hey Su!! *hugs* Yay! You found my blog. I added yours to my Friends list. How are you?? I'm glad you really like this post! About FC, I was planning to go, but this weekend is so busy for me. T__T I need to work on a lot of projects. But I wish I could go with you to the Con--'cause you know our "reunion after AAC" would make for hilarious stories and memories. (Plenty of lulz! XD) Ahh, we really need to hang out again and catch up sometime. Maybe next week, or in Feb. for Wondercon??

omg i just found this, how cool. sometimes i need a break from staring at words all day (or week, month(s), you get the point), so i thought i would hunt down some of your drawings. it cracks me up how you're like, "quick sketches on post it notes" and quick sketches to normal people would be like stick figures. do you like bagged spinach? my brother actually likes those bagged salads and even said that he eats them like a bag of chips too (he is very picky and only likes certain kinds of salad dressing). you have to take some pictures of japan for me!

Hey Olivia! Yeah I love spinach, but I've utterly FAILED on the whole spinach-only diet thing... That's funny that Angus said he eats them like chips out of the bag, too! XD I'll definitely take TONS of pics of Japan and post here! Hope everything is going well with you. Let me know the next time you're in town!
