Update: WonderCon, ArtWars, Gift Sketches

Sorry about the lack of updates. I've been so busy in these past two months, mostly on side projects and my portfolio. This Thursday is my birthday, and I'll be going out to dinner with a few friends from Shaba, then having dinner with all my Drawing Meats buddies this following Friday! On Saturday, I'll be flying off to Japan with my mom. I've been anticipating this day for a long time as it's one of the places I've always dreamed of traveling! I'll be sure to take plenty of photos to share when I return. ^__^

This is definitely long overdue, but at one of our drawing jams my friend Alex Ahad and I did a sketch trade. I asked for Yoko and he drew me this amazingly kick-ass pic just from memory! He's a pro at drawing Yoko and I especially love this because it's in his awesome style. He's one of the most talented artists I know!

Alex is the creator of the Skullgirls game and all its characters. If you haven't yet, check out more of Alex's incredible art on Error 404 and especially his Livejournal. I love the way he does such dynamic poses and intense compositions, and he's amazing with color to boot! XD My half of the trade (thanks for scanning that, Alex) was my interpretation of his characters, Squigly and Filia, but my sketch doesn't hold a candle to his art. T^^T

I went to WonderCon in February. One of my favorite things to do at conventions like these is to collect sketches in my sketchbook from the awesome artists I meet. Here's a few I'd like to share this year!

Blanka by Long Vo of Udon Entertainment
Miguel by Bobby Rubio, creator of Alcatraz High

An adorable dragon from Kei Acedera of Imaginism Studios
A dragon by Bobby Chiu from Imaginism Studios

Debbie Huey, creator of Bumper Boy
At the Game Developer's Conference last month I also entered ArtWars, and from event 7 I got into the final round! (I liked the art I did on the finals better, though.) Though I wasn't a winner in the finals, several people, Emiley Flowers, Lynda Miller, Tom Murray, Matt Olch, and Mike Ratto--all talented animation students from DigiPen--kindly came up to me later and gave me some generous compliments. This might sound cheesy, but seriously, their simple act of doing that made me so happy, I felt like a true winner after that! Thanks guys!! ^___^

Hey Calvin!

I'm happy you can come! Little Lamb Hot Pot sounds awesome! Great idea. Yeah, Sergio had to take off for a panel, and I never got to see him again. =( Maybe Comic Con though! I didn't know you had a Blogspot! I'll add yours to the list.

haha, I NEVER update my blogspot, I mainly have just so I can comment on people's blogs . Don't feel like you have to add it if you don't wanna.

I know it's been a while since I've showed up to meats, but hey, it's a special occasion!

I hope you have the happiest of birthdays on Thursday!

I remember you saying that you were going to Japan the last time I called. I can't believe its already time! How exciting! I know that Wonderfest just ended so its probably Comiket or something of the like that you'll be attending?

I'm sure you'll drag your moms all over the place. You should go to the school boy cafe http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/jpn/image/601/Boys+Cafe.html. And if you can try this new bun place http://www.akiba-maririn.com/index.html. And if you see Danny Choo (asian gaijin dressed at stormtrooper) take a picture with him for me.

Anyhow, I hope you have a fun and safe trip and don't overstay your tourist visa. I hear the japanese will do things to you butt. :P

I'll be missing you!

Fun little drawings, Gene! I see you paid a little homage to John Nunnemacher with that griffen character!

Hey everyone! Thank you for the birthday and good luck wishes on my trip. I am still here in Japan. Kyoto to be exact! I`m absolutely having the time of my life. I swear I`ll live here one of these days... I LOVE JAPAN! Ahhh, especially Akihabara. You won`t believe all the gashapon, anime, doujinshi, manga, statues, games and everything otaku here. Ahhh it`s heaven!

Will write more when I get back!

Ja ne!! ^__^

PS- I appreciate all the compliments, but the gift sketches in this post were done for me by other artists, not by me! Sorry for the confusion, I just wanted to give the artists their proper creds!

You keep a sketchbook separate from your site, Banewulfe? Hah!

I still check up on you from time to time. Life at your 'new job' must be busy indeed. Your stuff looks awesome as usual, betcha get tired of hearing that from the likes of me at least!

I hope this finds you well. Send me an e-mail when you have time to come up for air, ok? Catch ya'round!

Dude, like I know you've got skillz and your busy, pretty and stuff, but the no blogging thing has got to stop.

Sure, sure, you can show off all your cool drawings that other people did for you. It's yummy fluff, but what about that trip to Japan?

Where are the PIX?

At least, give us another boobie drawing. Seriously.

Oh, and <3
