CTN Expo 2010

CTN Expo was a wonderful experience for me and I learned so much more there than at any comic convention I had ever been to! I was fortunate to get to speak to a handful of artists I've admired for many years who've worked on some of my favorite films!

I loved catching all the making-of panels that involved the character design and animation process behind movies such as MegamindTangled and Despicable Me. I learned so much at Armand Serrano's "Power of Thumbnails" panel, and spoke with vizdev artists/art directors from Sony Animation (Armand Serrano, Luc Desmarchelier, James Williams) and Disney Animation (James Finch), who generously gave me positive and honest feedback on my work, which was extremely encouraging and helpful to me! ^__^ And to top things off at the very end of the convention, I even got to attend a special early screening of Tangled at Walt Disney Studios--such an amazingly beautiful film, and now one of my favorite movies, to date!

I was so excited to see many of my incredibly talented friends around the booths: Pascal Campion, Nidhi Chanani, Craig HarrisTuna BoraMichael BuffingtonScott WatanabeBill Robinson, EunJung June Kim, and Brenden Oshima! And I was really happy to bump into Sherrie Sinclair, my dear mentor, instructor and Director of Animation at the Academy of Art!!

To all my friends at CTN, it was wonderful and inspiring to see you all again! Thank you for all your help, kindness and support! ^___^

It was a pleasure meeting you as well, Genevieve. I love everything I saw on your portfolio. You are a solid draftsman (or is it draftswoman?!) and definitely in the right business. Keep it up! Please say hi to Sherrie Sinclair for me by the way.

Oh I didn't realize you were there! I was at my boyfriend's booth helping out. Would have been nice to meet. I see you work at EA. I was there until earlier this year.

Anyway, next time. Beautiful work!

Oceania - CTN Expo is a convention focusing on the animation industry; there are lots of opportunities to meet artists, see demos and attend panel discussions and more. Check out their site for all the info!

Nadia - Thanks so much for checking up with my blog and for all your really sweet comments! And yeah! Playing with the design and shapes is a huge part of the fun! ^__^

Armand - I know I mentioned this in an email earlier, but I am truly grateful for all your generous compliments on my work--it means a lot coming from you, a phenomenal artist I've long admired! Thanks again, Armand!!

Julia - Hey Julia! I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet while at CTN, bummer! I hope we can next time, though! It was pretty busy, wasn't it? I was so excited to be there as it was my first year attending. ^__^

Sorry, I should update that profile; actually I left EA around Feb (working at Sanzaru now). I saw in your portfolio you were at Pogo! That's really cool, I still have some friends in the QA and Art Dept there. I was in the Sims bldg.

Hi Genevieve,
Thanks for the visit on Ushuaia and for the kind notes you left there. It was a pleasure to meet you at CTN even if too briefly. I love what I see on your blog too.
So, until next time, keep up the good work.
Cheers.

Genevieve: Thanks for the compliments! ^^
For coming year, I'll be happy with any cool art job in the SanFran area! But I'd better work on my gestures if I'm competing with you for a job in animation 0_o.
