Sorry for the Lack of Updates!

Hey everyone!

Thanks to all who've been checking up on me and poking me with a stick to see if I'm still alive. I'm sorry I've disappeared for a while, but I've been swamped with an overwhelming amount of things going on since my last post. I promise I'll update when I get a chance, and have pics from:

Various Gift Sketches

Cherry Blossom Festival
My first Cosplay experience at Fanime '08! ^__^

Until next time!!

Update: WonderCon, ArtWars, Gift Sketches

Sorry about the lack of updates. I've been so busy in these past two months, mostly on side projects and my portfolio. This Thursday is my birthday, and I'll be going out to dinner with a few friends from Shaba, then having dinner with all my Drawing Meats buddies this following Friday! On Saturday, I'll be flying off to Japan with my mom. I've been anticipating this day for a long time as it's one of the places I've always dreamed of traveling! I'll be sure to take plenty of photos to share when I return. ^__^

This is definitely long overdue, but at one of our drawing jams my friend Alex Ahad and I did a sketch trade. I asked for Yoko and he drew me this amazingly kick-ass pic just from memory! He's a pro at drawing Yoko and I especially love this because it's in his awesome style. He's one of the most talented artists I know!
Yoko by Alex Ahad
Alex is the creator of the Skullgirls game and all its characters. If you haven't yet, check out more of Alex's incredible art on Error 404 and especially his Livejournal. I love the way he does such dynamic poses and intense compositions, and he's amazing with color to boot! XD My half of the trade (thanks for scanning that, Alex) was my interpretation of his characters, Squigly and Filia, but my sketch doesn't hold a candle to his art. T^^T

I went to WonderCon in February. One of my favorite things to do at conventions like these is to collect sketches in my sketchbook from the awesome artists I meet. Here's a few I'd like to share this year!

Blanka by Long Vo of Udon Entertainment
Miguel by Bobby Rubio, creator of Alcatraz High

An adorable dragon from Kei Acedera of Imaginism Studios
A dragon by Bobby Chiu from Imaginism Studios

Debbie Huey, creator of Bumper Boy
At the Game Developer's Conference last month I also entered ArtWars, and from event 7 I got into the final round! (I liked the art I did on the finals better, though.) Though I wasn't a winner in the finals, several people, Emiley Flowers, Lynda Miller, Tom Murray, Matt Olch, and Mike Ratto--all talented animation students from DigiPen--kindly came up to me later and gave me some generous compliments. This might sound cheesy, but seriously, their simple act of doing that made me so happy, I felt like a true winner after that! Thanks guys!! ^___^

More Woodland Creatures...

One of my resolutions is to eat healthier. In order to force myself into this, I'm only keeping 2 large bags of spinach in my fridge. So all day I've been munching on a bag of spinach like they're potato chips. Just a bag of spinach in one hand, and stuffing leaves in my mouth with the other. I probably look like a lazy panda. Must try... not to think... of meat. Or ice cream.

Anyway, these are sort of "leftovers" from last year... some older sketches of a bobcat and squirrel that I just decided to add color to.

And some fox sketches...

More bears... I didn't feel like coloring them. Are you guys tired of seeing bears? I think these are the last of my bear sketches...

And MORE squirrels!

Stay tuned for more!

Happy New Years! Argh, it's been too long since I last updated. I've been really busy with work and life has been rough lately, so... I haven't had the time to get much personal drawing done. But just recently I've started sketching again and was reminded what great joy it is to just draw for myself... I've missed that feeling. Of course, I also realized how rusty I've become without practice... (-__-);

Thank god for vacations! One of my New Years resolutions is to draw more and finish all the projects I've been putting off. And to update my blog and portfolio more often! ^__^

I'm going to Japan this March! Ah, my dream vacation!! I know it's so far away but I'm so excited! I have to brush up on my Japanese! Does anyone have any advice on the best places to buy manga, figures, anime, gashapon, etc. and places to eat? I've had a lot of great suggestions already, like Mandarake, Ghibli museum, Animate, Tora No Ana, Tokyuu Hands... any more suggestions? I'm making a list! Yeee!

Anyway, some quick bear sketches! I was trying to play with different styles...

More to come once I finish scanning!

More random sketches...

Quick and dirty sketch of Jon Talbain and Felicia (part of a birthday gift for my friend)...
Kayli, a character for a project I'm working on...

Testing my new Copic Marker set. (Left to Right) Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere; a little girl; and Kayli again.
More to come!
