CTN- X 2012!

Hey Everyone!

I'm off to CTN 2012 in Burbank, one of my favorite conventions! I'll be located @ T-29, please come by and say hello if you're attending this year! ^__^ Ahh, redeye flights, gotta love 'em! I haven't slept a wink but I'm super wide awake thanks to my random sleep schedule these past few weeks! Woo-hoo!! *falls over*

I haven't posted this on my blog yet, so here is a collection of some of the doodles I've been doing in my "For the Love of Lines" artbook! This is just the tip of the iceberg, too. I wish I got photos of all of the ones I drew when the book debuted last CTN! I guess you can call this the 1 Year Anniversary of "For the Love of Lines!"

Here's my piece for the "Mad Monster Party" Group Show at the Van Eaton Galleries. It's sort of a take on the early years, before Frankenstein met his Bride... I call it, "When Franky Met Sally" hehe! ;)

Hey Guys! I know I haven't updated in a LOOOONG time, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be tabling at San Diego Comic Con this year in Small Press Booth N-11!

The piece above is a crossover I've dubbed Diablo Time! The idea started out as a gift for my friend, Emmy, as we both LOVE Adventure Time and Diablo!

[EDIT: 7:49am 6/15/12] Hey Everyone!! Amazing news! On 6/13/12 my friends had pointed out that Kotaku had featured my Diablo Time print! I am SO grateful and excited to have all the support and appreciation of everyone who Liked, Shared, Twittered, Tumblr'd and spread the word about my work!! I'd personally like to thank my friends at Blizzard, all my pals at Zynga and EA, and especially all my close friends, particularly Mike and Emmy! THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!!!

Upcoming Beasts & Beats: "Oh, No! Tarot!" Gallery, April 7th

Hey Guys!

This year's Beasts & Beats Gallery, themed "Oh, No! Tarot!", will feature Tarot card art by over 30+ artists on Saturday, April 7th, 2012 @ Public Works SF. More details to come! What's also neat is that all of the art in the gallery will be made into an actual Tarot deck and be sold at the gallery!

My card was the 8th card in the Major Arcana: Strength. Instead of a maiden in white clasping a lion's jaws, I wanted to draw the maiden holding up a Cerberus in one hand with ease. Like many of the artists participating, I was inspired by Alphonse Mucha and wanted to give my illustration a similar feel.

History of the Strength Card (as cited from Wikipedia):
Some frequent keywords are:

Self-control	Being solid	Patience	Compassion
Composure	Stability	Perseverance	Moderation
Kindness	Gentleness	Slowness	Softness
Serenity	Comprehension	Discipline	Inner strength

The design of this card is fairly constant across tarot decks. The key characters are that of a woman and a lion, with the woman looking calm and gentle, yet dominant over the lion. Many cards, including that of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, have the woman clasping the lion's jaws. Another feature of the RWS deck is a lemniscate (a kind of geometric form) hovering over the woman's head. Other decks have the woman sitting upon the lion, or merely with one hand upon it. Some decks feature just one of the characters; flowers are often presented on this card.

CTN Expo 2011 & New Book!

Hey Everyone!

I know it's been a while since I last updated but I've been extremely busy lately working on my new book, "For the Love of Lines," which is debuting at CTN Expo 2011! I'll be there this Friday through Sunday, at booth T-63!

I'm so excited! I got the books on Wednesday from Keness, a local print shop that did a fantastic job with my books! I highly recommend printing with Ken if you live in the Bay Area and are looking for a quality print shop with awesome customer service!

I love CTN! Looking forward to seeing all my good friends and meeting new ones, talking to all the peeps I admire in the animation industry and attending their incredible and inspiring panels, and simply basking in the awesome vibe of the con atmosphere! I know whenever I come back from a convention I feel totally pumped and my passion reinvigorated to take on new and challenging projects--even despite the fact I've been killing myself over the previous projects just days before, hehe!

APE!

Hey Guys!

Sorry about the lack of updates! I've been so busy with many big projects while simultaneously working at Zynga, so my schedule has been swamped for months. But though work's been busy, it's also been a blast so far, and I especially love all the fun and talented folks I get to work with everyday! Recently my friends Pascal Campion and Glenn Kim visited Zynga to have lunch with me and my buddies, Steph and Heather, and we had such a great time! Can't wait till next time when we'll all get to visit their studio!

And for more great news, my friend and awesome Game Designer Jason Weezner was kind enough to let me use his booth for APE this year (he is working on a graphic novel of his own, so stay tuned!). So I will be at APE this weekend October 1-2 @ Booth #561, sharing with two very amiable, down-to-earth-cool and creatively talented friends of mine, Glenn Kim and Chris Frye!

Chris was previously a Production Manager at Fox, Effects Artist for Dreamworks, and Overseas Supervisor at HBO. He will be promoting his company, Musa Entertainment, so keep an eye out for the Musa banner with beautiful art by Glenn! Glenn is an amazing artist whose skills range from visual development for characters and environments, to even storyboarding! He previously worked at Pixar and now works at LOLApps making gorgeous art for Ravenskye City. UPDATE:
Thanks to all those who stopped by at APE today! It was a very good first day, as I got to see old friends and new, even those I hadn't seen for years since Academy days! Thanks to friends who came by and hung with me at the booth to chat and catch up even for a bit, for Glenn's wife who made awesome bacon veggie wraps and brought us much-needed food (at the booth you don't realize how hungry you are until you start eating--and then you wolf it down with tears streaming down your face as if you hadn't eaten for weeks) and to Mike for driving all the way back home to get the box of prints I stupidly forgot this morning! And of course, to Glenn and Chris for being awesome company! ^__^
